Varanasi & New Delhi

रिवर गंगेस

River Ganges

Another beautiful thing about India - River Ganges.

We went there for sunrise yesterday morning. Getting up that early wasn't easy, nor smelling the titchy streets of Varanasi on the way to River Ganges. Uuuh, can't forget that smell, i tried smelling my own hands or anything i could reach of my clothes, but nothing worked! Awful smell!
But there was something about River Ganges that kind of blew you away. It was beautiful, peacefull and calm.
Varanasi is very famous for being the most holy city in India, especially River Ganges where people bathe, cremate and pray every morning. I can tell they are very holy, they must be very holy for even stepping one foot into that river. It's so polluted that there is no oxigen left in it, rubish everywhere in the river and with poo and wee constantly going in the river....do i need to tell you more??!!
We went on a lovely boat ride, they showed us the 2 burning places where people from all over India come to cremate their lost ones. So in the river is also millions of corps ashes. But for them, if you bathe in River Ganges, you get rid of your sins.
The day followed with some sightseeing in Varanasi, with no AC car and 45 degrees outside. We had windows open, but it felt like you put your face really close to a stove that is on and it blows up in your face! Something like that anyway.
That night we Headed back to Delhi, with the train again. But before we got there we got stuck on the massive bridge that takes you over River Ganges. Mad traffic jam! Our driver told David to get out of the car and go and tell the policeman to hurry up the traffic or else we'd miss our train! We got there anyway, but it was a bit hard for me as i'm a bit scared of bridges. WHO would like to fall into that river???
At the train station, believe it or not, but we got fooled by the Train conductor!! He told us our train was 2 hours late so we went to the other platform as it had a waitingroom. This old woman had to sign us in the book and she wanted a tip of course. But after 3 min we heard the announcement, it was our train! + an Indian guy sitting next to us told us our train had just arrived! So the train conductor lied, and the old woman in the waitingroom didn't say anything even though it's supposed to be her job to tell us when our train arrives. When we ran out she just smiled one of those disgusting smiles of haha-i-took-your-money-and fooled-you, kind of smiles. Luckily we didn't miss the train. Met a lovely couple from Ireland on the train, so chatted for a while before going to sleep and woke up 9 hours later in Delhi. Went for a little sightsee in Delhi again with a nice "sikh" man. only Rs100 (1.50 euro)
We're now sitting in the restaurant, David watching cricket and me writing. At 12 o'clock tonight our driver will collect us at the Hotel to bring us to the airport
