Adios Buenos Aires!

16th March
IRELAND 8 DAYS LEFT!
SWEDEN 23 DAYS LEFT!

Andrea that worked in the hostel showed
us how to make a proper mate!
All good things must come to an end, and this is no different for Buenos Aires. We do however have a few more things to sample before we leave for Iguazu Falls this evening. First thing is drinking the famous mate. Preparation is important and therefore must be shown by a true Argentinian. First the mate glass which is made out of wood is filled 3/4 full of yerba mix. Then it is filled with cold water and let stand for around 7 days to get the wood ready. Then scooped out and refilled again with the yerba mix. This time pouring a) sugar b) water at 75 deg temperature. Then and only then can it be drunk. The water step is repeated until the yerba mix starts to taste bitter. This can be anything up to 12 or so pours. Then the process is re-started. That is your lesson in mate drinking for today.

And what could be a better accompaniment to the strong flavour of mate, it is of course a Argentinian delicasy the Alfajores. It comes in many shapes and flavours but it is loved by all. Its sweet taste and the memories of childhood are just the ticket.

Angela...eating the alfajores! YUM!

Oh oh, well now that we have sampled the delites of Buenos Aires that only leaves us with one more meal before we head for the bus station this evening. After enjoying it so much the first time we decided to go back, it is of course "Siga La Vaca". Another divine meal, only more selective this time with our meats etc. The objective was to be happily stuffed and it was achieved.

Puerto Madero

It's now time to go to the bus station. We're all excited going on a bus this time as we're doing it the 1 class way! Seats that fold down to beds, hot meals, champagne and you're own little tv, blankets ang pillows.
As we get on the bus and sit down we just cannot hide the fact that we're so excited and that we love this bus so much, neither could Molly, the girl we met on the bus sitting beside us, who was clearly as excited as us. We got chatting, we saw "the village"...which is, if you're wondering, about a village!
I was watching a political drama, and fell asleep. (it was just too political.) Angela and Molly was up talking until about 1 o'clock.
