Hong Kong Baby - Hong Kong Love

13th September

Suvernabhumi International Airport in Thailand was reached without delay by a cheap bus, only 130 baht per person, its easy to get from any hotel. Our bags checked through and boarding passes in hand, we were good to go. With time to kill as it is always the case in airports we had a coffee, and played a few games of chinese checkers, while waiting.

Flight time to Hong Kong was only 2h and 20mins, so short enough to have a meal and watch a film. Then we arrived, safely and on time. It took us awhile to find our bearings as it is huge. But we did it somehow anyway and were on a cheap €3 bus to town. We first needed a place to stay and call home for 3 days, so Mirador Mansions we went for. It was the cheapest place in Hong Kong people said to us, but the rooms here are bloody small. I am talking 8m2 at the most. Anyway, there are many Indian looking blokes offering jewellery, and accomodation outside the entrance. We were just about to go to look at a room, when a woman intercepted us and said that he does not have a guesthouse, but just someone renting their home room. So we changed and went with her instead. Boy he was not pleased, and he kept saying "I saw you first, and now you screw me". Hung Kiu Guest House is were we are now, but Mirador Mansions is not a nice place, I can tell you. But the room is ok for now, we rather not pay the big money, saving it for Oz.

Tired and sleepy though we were, we still needed to eat something before resting our bodies for the night. Outside was raining, windy and all the lights were on. So a short distance away we popped into an Aussie bar for some tucker. Had a glass of red wine, a pint of Carslberg and two meals for €27. Oh boy the reality had surely hit us, and the difference in prices between Thailand, Vietnam etc here is huge.

First night sleep is going to be enjoyable. We always did want to try living in a cardboard box, only this one is costing us €13 per night and it has tiles all around.
